THE IYENGAR YOGA METHOD

The Iyengar method develops strength, endurance and optimal body alignment, as well as flexibility and relaxation. The Iyengar method develops self-awareness, intelligent evaluation and deep inner reflection. Attention to detail and cultivation of awareness aim not only to maintain physical safety in practice, but to develop the mental benefits of full meditation in action. No two classes are ever exactly alike. The variation in the sequence of Iyengar classes is influenced by the level and condition of the student, the time of day, the time of year and many other factors.

In Iyengar yoga classes the emphasis is on learning, not just doing, so the teacher will work with instructions, demonstrations or adjustments so that the student can fully assimilate the process and gain a deeper understanding of himself.
Standing positions are most important in the beginning to build strength and confidence in movement, increase overall vitality and improve circulation, coordination and balance, providing a solid foundation for the study of more advanced positions.
Positions suitable for developing a sense of deep relaxation are introduced from the very beginning. little by little, seated positions and forward stretches, inversions, backbends, twists, arm balances and uninterrupted sequences are also introduced.

 .Iyengar Yoga insists on precise alignment in the yoga postures.
Why is this important?
People tend to stretch from the more flexible areas and rely more on the better-developed muscles, thus strengthening postural habits!, Through the focus on correct alignment, Iyengar Yoga encourages weak parts to strengthen and rigid areas to release, thus awakening and realigning the whole body.
An additional benefit of correct anatomical alignment is also reduced pain and improved posture. as the body becomes accustomed to better alignment, less muscle effort is required and relaxation naturally increases.
